Pet GPS Tracker App for Australia

ClientProject duration 6–12 months 5 min read

We built a pet safety service for pet-owning families in Australian cities and suburbs, combining GPS tracking devices, a mobile app, geofencing, route replay, and family collaboration. Users can view their pet's real-time location, review activity history over a period of time, and receive timely alerts when the pet enters or leaves designated areas.

Pet safety can't rely solely on passive search efforts after a pet goes missing

Traditional pet tags and lost-pet notices usually only start to work after the pet is already missing. For families in cities and suburbs, a more effective approach is to understand the pet's activity range in advance, so that anomalies can be detected and acted upon as soon as they occur. Therefore, we didn't make this project a simple map; instead, we redesigned the service chain around 'daily monitoring – anomaly alerts – family response.' Location tracking is just the entry point; what really matters is enabling family members to continuously and reliably protect their pets together.

Balancing location accuracy, device battery life, and notification effectiveness

The more frequently location updates, the faster the device battery drains; if updates are too slow, it affects the efficiency of finding the pet. Residential areas, parks, and indoor/outdoor transitions can also cause location drift, leading to false geofence alerts. The product needs to be sensitive without constantly disturbing users. For the Australian and surrounding markets, location data, family member permissions, device subscriptions, renewals, and payment experience must also align with local habits. This product can't just translate location features from other markets into English; it must be localized in terms of usage patterns and service rules. Solution

Turning location tracking into a complete path for shared family protection

We unified real-time location, historical routes, safety geofences, danger zones, and device status into one product, so users stay on a clear path from detecting anomalies, assessing the situation, contacting family members, to taking action. For permissions, we clearly distinguish between device owners and family sharing members. Only authorized individuals can view the pet's location and device information, and users can revoke sharing at any time to prevent unbounded distribution of location data. For the business model, we make the tracking hardware and subscription plans work together: basic location tracking ensures the core experience, while features like high-frequency updates, long-term route history, and family collaboration support recurring service revenue. What we solve is not just 'where is the pet now,' but 'how a family can continuously and reliably protect their pet together in daily life.'
Technology is not the goal — exponential business growth is.
